ONE OUT OF TEN

In America Can Do This I spoke about General Motors’ lack of forsight in developing cars for the 21st century. I also illustrated that of the top ten most reliable cars (rated by Consumer Reports) – none were GM cars and only one was an American made car.

I am adding this information as reinforcement to that post. Consumer Reports has listed the top ten overall rated cars. GM has only one out of the ten.

Five out of the ten are manufacturered by Toyota or Toyota-owned Lexus. This is no surprise to me. I’ve owned only Toyotas since 1986. Also note that only one out of the ten cars that received the lowest scores was NOT an American made car.

I’ve owned GM cars: a Pontiac Catalina, a Chevrolet Impala, an Oldsmobile Cutlass and a Chevrolet Corvette. None had the reliability and ease of care that I find with Toyotas.

There are many reasons for the lack of quality, which I also discuss in America Can Do This.

I know we can build much better cars and create good jobs in the process. We need only the will to do it. I’m ready to buy American again, when the auto manufacturers prove they have a product line that is as good or better than Toyota’s.

My current Toyota Avalon has over 100,000 miles on it and I would not trade even for a new GM sedan in the same class.

Hopefully, I won’t be saying that in the near future.

Sincerely,
